Upcoming event – July 8th – My Ride. Our Right: Asking women about cycling

In response to CUKs campaign My Ride. Our Right, Pedals is hosting, with support from Women in Tandem and NottsCTC, a workshop for women to discuss improving and increasing cycling amongst women within the Nottingham area.
We wish to find out
  • Why women still cycle far less than men.
  • Identify barriers to cycling, especially for using a cycle for everyday use.
  • What we may be able to do to eradicate these barriers.
  • Look at how we can campaign to bring about change.
Rosemary, West Bridgford outlines some of the barriers she encounters locally:
‘A disincentive to cycling for me is the attitude of some other cyclists mainly male. I am going at a sedate pace because I want to and, currently, I am awaiting surgery. This is not acceptable to some other cyclists who near-pass without warning or over-do the warning: over-taking and under-taking. Birdcage Walk locally is a typical battleground. It’s not just cars who act aggressively towards female cyclists.’
We would like to open the evening to all women whether they cycle for leisure, sport, commuting, shopping or do not (yet) cycle at all. No formality, just turn up and give us your views and ideas though if you know you are coming along, drop us an email so we have some idea of numbers. Don’t want to run out of refreshments!
When: Tuesday 8th July 2025
Time: 7 – 9pm
