Ghost Bikes Article

There was a good article about "Ghost Bikes" in the Guardian on Saturday. These are bikes painted white and left where a cyclist has been killed.

See this article for more details.

Bike Tools for Africa - an appeal from Cyclemagic (Leicester)

Hello everyone.

Cyclemagic has teamed up with Essex based charity Re-Cycle to help them further develop bike recycling projects both here and in Africa.

Working with African partners, Re-Cycle sends container loads of bikes out every few weeks but there's always lots of dead space in between the bikes. We'd like to fill some of that space with bike tools for the growing number of bicycle workshops and education projects being set up all over Africa.

Fundamental changes needed in cycling laws and culture

Coming from the Netherlands, having lived in the Rushcliffe area for the past 5 years, it amazes me how few people actually use a bicycle for day to day use, especially in the current climate of high fuel prices and enviromental issues.
Before anything can be improved i feel their need to be 2 fundemental change to create room for a major expansion in cycling activities.

1. A cyclist should always be considered right by law.(same in the Netherlands and it works!)

Preventative Educational Developmental Accredited Learning (PEDAL)

can anybody help volounteer ideas or time into this bike based project?

Crap Cycle Lanes

There was an article in the Two Wheels section of the Guardian yesterday about Warrington Cycle Campaign's (http://www.warringtoncyclecampaign.co.uk/) book of crap cycle lanes, which I thought would be worth looking at (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crap-Cycle-Lanes-Warrington-Campaign/dp/19030705...).

Mind you as a long standing reader of the Idler magazine who came up with Crap Towns, I'm fed up with other people nicking their idea!

campus campaign

Hugh,

Hi, I'm a final-year undergraduate from London.
I have noticed a bad development here at the University of Nottingham.
This year, many people cycling to the science end of campus have discovered a serious shortage of cycle spaces (only about 50 racks) compared with 150 car spaces in the same area. Gavin from Estates Office claims to have spent £30,000 on extra racks outside the main library but it's still not enough to keep up with surging demand. Security patrols have been heavily stickering "incorrectly-parked" bikes on lamp-posts, trees, and railings.
