Nottingham City Council bid for the Cycling England's Cycling Towns/City Project

The Nottingham City Council bid for the second round of Cycling England's Cycling Towns/City Project, submitted at the end of March.

This bid, along with 72 others, was made in response to Cycling England's announcement earlier this year that they would be funding another round of Cycling Demonstration Town Projects, as first funded in 2005.

In this case they are providing funding for 10 Cycling Town and 1 Cycling City projects, to be used with match funding from local authorities. A first announcement is expected in June on which of the bids are to be funded.

See the Application Form 2008 document on our Policy Documents Page for more details.

Unfortunately, Nottingham

Unfortunately, Nottingham has failed in it's bid for Cycling England's Cycling City/Towns Project. However all is not lost as the City Council still hope to be able to implement some of this programme in due course using other funding sources.

Also much of the hard work submitting the bid fits in with a future "Healthy Town" bid.

Dear All, I am pleased to

Dear All,

I am pleased to announce that following our bid to become a Cycle
Demonstration Town we have been short listed to progress to the
interview stage. The Nottingham City bid has been selected from 74
bids from around the country.

The bid was made to Cycling England following their announcement in
February that they wish to create ten cycling towns and one cycling
city. The bidding process is the next step in developing their Cycling
Town initiative. This follows the creation of six initial Cycling
Demonstration Towns a few years ago.

We feel that we have a strong bid and hope that the interviewers
recognise this when the next stage in the selection process takes
place in Birmingham at the end of this month. The final announcement
of the successful towns and cities will be made by the Transport
Minister in the week of either 9th June or 16th June.

Kind Regards

Keith Morgan
