Media feature on ASBO Pavement Cyclist

What did people make of this evenings news about the guy getting an ASBO for cycling on the pavement?  See here.  I was hoping that it might be someone more articulate who might reason that there are circumstances where cycling on the pavement is the only safe option available to cyclists, and provided that it is done at a sensible speed with all caution given to pedestrians it isn't the end of the world.

There are a couple of sections of my commute to work where during busy times I will use the pavement provided there are no pedestrians, as the road narrows dangerously and I've been clipped by a car cycling up this section.

Yeh but some instances are

Yeh but some instances are unavoidable if you value your life such as Kirk lane lights in Rudd. Had more than 3 near misses due to RLJ's so now use pavement for 100m stretch.

P.S - Larry at least you aren't talking to yourself now :-)
