Cycling as transport on the Beeb

BBC East Midlands are going run a feature on cycling as transport on Thursday.

This will be a follow up to a national news item about fuel prices.

The item, which was filmed this Monday morning features longtime cycle commuter, Andrew Thompson from Bleasby. It should be a good representation of cycling as a practical means of transport. He's far from being a "lycra lout", he's an NHS administrator, and holds good views on cycling as a form of transport, and the need for not cycle "provision", but the reigning in of the motorist's free-for-all on the roads.

He reported about the filming:

It went well, certainly thorough. He was with me from 6.25 am to 10.00 am.

He asked a good range of balanced questions, without bias and took some riding past shots at Epperstone, Woodborough and an 'approaching camera' shot going up the steep section of Bank Hill.

He was genuinely interested in cycling and wanted lots of advice. As a 49 year old he is looking to loose a little weight and wants to do a South Wales to Scotland ride that his father did many years ago

We'll see how it all edits together on Thursday

Keep an eye out for the item, hopefully it will be good publicity for us.
