Cyclists and The NET Extension Plans - New discussions with Pedals

NEW DISCUSSIONS WITH PEDALS AS CONSTRUCTION WORK GETS UNDERWAY

Work on building the two new NET tram extension lines, to Toton, via Beeston and Chilwell, and Clifton via Wilford and Silverdale, will be getting fully underway early this year, following the signing of the final agreement with the new consortium (Tramlink) developing and managing the tram, in December 2011.

  • We have already had discussions about the implications for cyclists of the latest detailed plans in the Broxtowe Borough area, and further discussions on the latest extension plans in the City, have also now taken place.

In these meetings we are focusing both on the positive opportunities for new cycle facilities along the tram extensions, where there is space and also on the need for a series of measures to minimise the possible dangers for cyclists on narrower roads such as Chilwell High Road, where there is very little space for cycle lanes, let alone cycle paths, alongside the new routes.

For more background information on Pedals and the NET, including our involvement in the planning for NET Line One, to Bulwell and Hucknall, opened in March 2004, see the special NET pages on our website at http://www.pedals.org.uk/cyclists_and_the_net

This also includes a downloadable copy of the notes of the 3 recent meetings to discuss the detailed alignments on both extension routes.
