Successful East Midlands Cyclists Forum meeting and ride in Nottingham on Saturday 2 October 2010

PROGRAMME FOR EAST MIDLANDS CYCLISTS’ FORUM MEETING IN NOTTINGHAM ON
SATURDAY 2 OCTOBER 2010, HOSTED BY PEDALS (Nottingham Cycling Campaign)

The Programme was:-

  •  Gather from 10.00
  • 10.30 Tea and Coffee available
  • 11.00: Formal start of meeting: Welcome from Andrew Martin, Facilitator, Pedals
  • 11.00-11.05: Welcome from Hugh McClintock (current EMCF convenor) and outline of the programme and arrangements
  • 11.05-11.30: 15 minute presentation from Helen Ross, Senior Public Health Manager, The Directorate of Public Health and Social Care East Midlands, Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM),  Nottingham, on campaigning to promote health and cycling in the East Midlands, with questions and discussion
  • 11.30-11.55: 15-minute presentation from Matthew Easter, Sustrans Regional Director for the East Midlands. on ‘Sustrans role in the region; future developments and opportunities to cooperate with campaigners’, with questions and discussion.
  • 11.55-12.00: 5-minute presentation on the Sustrans / Cycling England U-Cycle Project by Joanna Ward, Project Director.
  • 12.05-12.15: short break to buy drinks
  • 12.15-12.45: 10 minute presentation from Hugh McClintock on the EMCF: Past, Present and Future’, including future convenor and coordination arrangements, with questions and discussions
  • 12.45-13.00: General questions, discussion and networking
  • 13.00-14.00: Lunch with continuation of informal networking and discussions
  • 14.00: Depart for Big Track ride (returning by 16.00, approx)
    (http://www.thebigwheel.org.uk/your-new-and-improved-big-track), a 9-mile river- and canalside route, taking 2 hours approx., with stops, e.g. at the Boathouse Café near Beeston Lock.

  • 16.00 (approx): End of meeting and ride:
    Adjourn to The Vat and Fiddle PH, Queen’s Bridge Road, for those wanting a last drink and informal discussion
  • 16.00 – 16.15 (approx): Option: Nottingham Station Bike Compound visit
    Brief visit to the new Bike Compound at Nottingham Station (in the former Milk Dock area on the north side of the Station, i.e. off Queen’s Street) for those interested... The Compound was implemented by East Midlands Trains, Network Rail and Nottingham City Council, and opened in July 2010: (see: http://www.pedals.org.uk/nottingham_station_parking )
